Introduction
Installing
MakeSBS3D comes as a disk image from makesbs3d.com and updates itself from there.
Installing the app
- Click Download for Mac on makesbs3d.com. The download is a DMG.
- Open the DMG and drag MakeSBS3D to your Applications folder.
- Open MakeSBS3D from Applications. The app is signed and notarized, so macOS opens it without a warning.
Updates
MakeSBS3D checks makesbs3d.com for a new version when it starts and offers to install it. Check for Updates… in the MakeSBS3D menu checks right away. The automatic check is a default: turn it off under Settings → General → Updates, and the app then checks only when you ask.
The Releases page lists what changed in each version.
MakeMKV
MakeMKV is the tool that reads a 3D Blu-ray, and MakeSBS3D needs its output either way. Install it from makemkv.com into your Applications folder. When it is there, MakeSBS3D shows a Disc button in the toolbar and can run MakeMKV for you, as the Direct from disc page describes. Without it, you rip the MKV in MakeMKV yourself and open that file.
The window
The toolbar runs along the top: Open, Eject, Start, Start All and Stop on the left, and on the right Full Unlock while in the trial, Disc when MakeMKV is installed, Console and Settings. Each has a keyboard shortcut, shown when you hover.
Below it, the left panel is the drop well and shows what the app is doing. The right panel holds the settings for the selected movie: Output, Video, Audio, and Subtitles. The bottom panel lists the sources with their audio and subtitle tracks, and a status bar reports progress during a conversion.
Console (⌘.) opens a window with everything the conversion tools print. When something fails, the message in the main window ends with "See console for details", and that is where to look.
