Getting started

MakeSBS3D is a native macOS app that converts your 3D Blu-rays into movie files your headset can play: Full Side-by-Side 3D for SKYBOX, Moon VR Player and most 3D players, or Spatial Video for Apple Vision Pro. The movie comes from an MKV made by MakeMKV, or straight from the disc in the drive.

Requirements

An Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 15.6 or later, and room on the disk: a movie takes tens of gigabytes while it converts, and Spatial Video needs an intermediate file on top. Plan on 100 GB free.

A 3D Blu-ray and a drive that reads it. MakeMKV makes the MKV from the disc, and with MakeMKV installed MakeSBS3D can do that step for you.

Your first movie

Two paths lead in. Both end in the same window, with the same settings.

From an MKV

1. In MakeMKV, rip the movie with its Mpeg4 MVC video track checked. The Extracting with MakeMKV page shows where that checkbox is.
2. Open MakeSBS3D and drop the MKV on the window, or click Open and pick it.
3. Under Output, choose the Format: FSBS-3D Side-by-Side plays on the most devices, MV-HEVC Spatial Video is Apple Vision Pro's own format.
4. Click Start.

From the disc

1. Insert the Blu-ray and click Disc. MakeSBS3D lists the 3D titles on it, with the main movie selected.
2. Choose the Format and click Start. MakeMKV extracts the title, MakeSBS3D converts it and ejects the disc when it is done.

The finished file lands next to the source, or in the folder set under Settings → Defaults, named after the movie with 3D.FSBS or 3D.MV-HEVC at the end. Copy it to the headset and open it in your player.
